EDWARD SPERA
Artist Edward Spera lives his life on the wild side and nowhere is it more obvious than in his brilliant wildlife paintings. The magnificent tiger gracing the cover of our Harvest issue of Arabella is a prime example. So realistic you can almost see it breathe, and yes blink those soulful amber eyes. Edward has travelled the globe to see the creatures he paints in their natural habitat. His dedication and perseverance ensures a body of work unlike that of any other wildlife painter and a taste of adventure and awe with each and every view.

HEATHER KOCSIS
A background in print-making serves artist Heather Kocsis well, as a basis for creating unique ‘sculptural paintings’ using layers of wood. Her subjects are buildings that reflect a community’s identity and history and her intent is to take the perspective to the next level and “invite the viewer into the piece.” Preservation of older buildings is a passion of Heather’s and her artistic take on the plight of endangered urban architecture is not only commendable but breathtaking.

LUDMILA CURILOVA
Theatre art in a fairy tale setting – that surely describes the ‘painted ladies’ of Ludmila Curilova. As the artist explains, “Painting acts as a magic mirror through which I share my perception that inside every woman is a princess.” Indeed the imagination soars when viewing the regal figures in their decadent gowns and elegant hats and you can’t help but wonder about the lives these mysterious women lead. Simply beautiful.

GERDA MARSCHALL
Her still life paintings are described as “anything but still” but artist Gerda Marschall doesn’t mind. She loves to share her boundless energy and joyful view on life with the rest of the world. This exuberance spills over in her work with vigorous applications of colour and bold brush strokes that can’t help but bring pleasure to viewers. The hardest thing for this artist on the move is that she gets so involved she doesn’t know when to stop!

DOUGLAS EDWARDS
The ultimate compliment for this Canadian painter is when people say something like, “I was up north and the sky was so beautiful, I said to myself, that’s a Douglas Edwards sky.” Not surprisingly, this happens often, given Douglas’s unique talent for capturing the ever-changing heavens with a dreamer’s touch. He has crossed Canada and Europe, painting and exhibiting and never tires of a new adventure. Next in line, Nfld. and Nunavut, he just has to find the time!
